The Civil Contractors Federation (CCF) strongly supports the Coalition’s announcement of its $5 billion Housing Infrastructure Programme, which as of today commits 30% of funding to regional, rural, and remote Australia.
This initiative will provide critical investment in housing and community enabling infrastructure, such as water, sewerage, and road networks, paving the way for thousands of new homes to be delivered across the regions.
CCF has 100,000 tradies and contractors in every town and city in Australia and with regional Australia growing rapidly, with a population increase of 117,300 (1.4%) in 2023 alone this requires housing enabling infrastructure to support growing communities outside the major centres.
This announcement recognises that you can’t build a house without first investing in the civil infrastructure that supports it. By funding essential housing and community enabling infrastructure, the Oppositions plan will alleviate pressure on metropolitan housing markets and enable regional communities to thrive.
CCF highlighted the importance of this funding for regional councils experiencing significant population growth. LGAs like Mitchell in Victoria (3.9%), Ravensthorpe in Western Australia (3.4%), and Whitsunday in Queensland (3.1%) are growing faster much than the national average, and this funding will absolutely make a difference.
