CCF has made a submission to Infrastructure Australia on what our members see as the impediments to infrastructure development in Australia and what can be done about them.

Whilst we raise a number of issues the key reforms we are seeking are:

  • The need for national uniformity and harmonisation across states, territories, state agencies and local government in a range of areas such as procurement and tendering, prequalification  and contract standardisation, licensing and regulation;
  • National and state/local government integrated forward programs and planning – acknowledging and supporting the role particularly of small to medium contractors;
  • Addressing the skills shortages in civil construction through specific measures to better capture data on skills shortages and support the undertaking of targeted training and development through a 1% provisional sum to provide training in construction contracts;
  • Continuing to support important reforms in workplace relations with the retention of the ABCC or a strong building and construction regulator.
