Australia’s peak employer representative body for the Civil Construction industry today welcomed the Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport’s announcement that $3.8 million in Commonwealth funding is available in 2017-2018 for heavy vehicle road safety initiatives.

The Civil Contractors Federation said this announcement, which comes off the back of the $350,000 Commonwealth funding for code of practice development, will greatly contribute to enhancing road safety for all road users.

CCF Chief Executive Officer, Christopher Melham said the Federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister, the Hon Darren Chester MP, and the Chief Executive Officer of the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator, Mr Sal Petroccitto should both be commended for showing strong leadership toward improving road safety.

“The civil construction sector has a significant heavy vehicle fleet across the length and breadth of Australia, interacting with other road users on a daily basis. The challenge now is for CCF members to put their thinking caps on to design and put forward a tangible heavy vehicle project proposal that will enhance the safety of our fleet and the other road users that interact with us across Australia”, Melham said.

CCF looks forward to submitting a project proposal for consideration.
