Federal Budget: More of the same but some small gain

Federal Budget overview

The Government has announced a forecast deficit of $18 billion in 2013 -2014 and is forecasting a return to a balanced budget in 2015 – 2016 and a surplus of $6.6 billion in 2016 -17.

Changes to Living-Away-From Home Allowances and Benefits

As of 1 October 2012, access to tax concessions for living-away-from–home allowances and benefits will generally be limited to a period of 12 months for an employee at a particular work location.

Money for Skills - Welcomed

The Civil Contractors Federation (CCF) tonight welcomed further spending on skills and skills training in a tough budget environment. In particular the CCF was pleased to see additional funding for the National Workforce Development Fund (NWDF) to support mature aged workers to upskill and reskill. Whilst the industry is experiencing tough conditions we have to keep the focus on skills training for the up swing, Mr Gosatti the National Chief Executive Officer of the CCF said.

Machinery Hygiene Code of Practice Booklet

CCF together with the Department of Primary Industries (DPI), the Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE), VicRoads and the Association of Land Development Engineers (ALDE) has published this Code of Practice (CoP) booklet on Machinery Hygiene.  The booklet  is specifically tailored to the civil construction industry and has an emphasis on machinery hygiene for weed and plant disease management. 

 The CoP is free to download from below or contact CCF’s Hawthorn office for a printed copy.

CCF lodges submission on the Carbon Tax Bills

As members will be aware the Government recently released a number of Bills to give legislative effect to the Carbon Tax.

We have been very active on this issue since the then incoming Labor Government in 2007 signalled its intentions to make these changes. Members may recollect that the legislation stalled in the last Parliament as the Opposition and Greens both opposed the legislation (albeit for different reasons).
